1. The Blissful Beach Retreat

What better way to introduce your baby to the wonders of the world than with the soothing sound of ocean waves and the warm embrace of sandy beaches in the next long weekend? Beaches are great for little ones, as there’s so many options of sensory play – the big sandy beach, the wonderful frothy waves, the innumerable little shells, just to name a few. What makes every parent happy is the fact that these are all FREE!

In the next long weekend, opt for baby-friendly beach hotels and resorts that offer amenities like shaded play areas and calm waters. I honestly love to stay at a beach-facing hotel so that Little A has ample access to the beach.

Just be prepared for your little one’s first encounter with sand – it’s a love-hate relationship! However, carrying some BPA-free sand toys are great ways to keep them engaged. Here is my top recommendation for my friends in the USA and India.

For us, Little A turned out to be an innate Beach Baby!

2. Mountain Escapades

Elevate your family adventures by heading to the hills. Fresh mountain air, scenic hikes, and cozy cabins await your entourage for the next long weekend.

Heading to the mountains for a weekend gives the perfect solace to the soul that one hardly finds in the busy and noisy urban jungle. Your kid(s) would gain in so many ways to go on that nature walk together with you. Not just pure bonding, there’s a lot of cognitive skills that get enhanced with a trip to the mountains.

Little kids can be awed by the glistening sunlight atop a snowy peak, have a plethora of sensory play while learning about the different textures of leaves and flowers, learn about different bugs, insects, birds, and other fauna… the list of activities is truly endless on a mountain getaway. Consider this for your next long weekend if you want to cozy up by the fire with some hot cocoa.

3. Camping Calls

Pitch a tent and immerse your baby in the great outdoors. Camping introduces the little ones to nature’s lullabies – crickets and babbling brooks! Teaching survival techniques, living sustainably and minimally, even for a weekend, only sets your baby for a resilient and confident version of themselves in the future.

However, if you’re unsure of being with your toddler or infant all by yourself amidst unknown trails and woods for the next long weekend, there are great options nowadays where tent resorts offer the close proximity to nature without the uncertainty of gathering and managing a proper stay and food.

For the bravehearts, there are wonderful options of tents which are easy to carry and maneuver. Here are my top recommendations for the happy campers in USA and India.

4. Charming Countryside Escapes

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and venture into the heart of picturesque countryside escapes for the next long weekend. Explore destinations with rolling hills, charming farm stays, and simple organic meals in cozy cottages.

Recently, an article by Prof. Dr. Torsten Widmann (Head of Leisure Industry Studies, Member of the Local Senate, Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Ravensburg) also mentioned that off late, the trend is about educating children about sustainable ways of living and travelling, like a day in the farm.

Millennial parents are more akin to introduce their little ones into the ‘real and tangible’ agro-tourism, getting them involved in petting or feeding farm animals, or even working to get a first-hand experience in milking or creating food and protein balls for them. Thus, lots of such excursions and stay options are coming up to meet these demands.

When we took Little A to a farm for the first time, she didn’t want to get down from my lap. However, as we kept going and familiarizing her with the ambience on a weekend here or there, she really came around and now is very comfortable being with them! In fact, she aced the animal calls even before she turned 2 years old.

Your baby will be mesmerized by the simplicity of nature, and you might just discover the joy of chasing chickens and ducks together. Perhaps, as they grow up, they might even learn a skill or two about sustainable living!

5. Urban Adventures for Little Urbanites

Well, sometimes with the hectic work-life, you would not really want to venture far out when the time is short. I get it! So fear not, here is an option that might be just for you to get away in the next long weekend!

For city-savvy parents who can’t resist the allure of skyscrapers and vibrant street life, seek out locations with stroller-friendly sidewalks, family-friendly museums, and green parks where your little one can play and be entertained. A great place to go exploring with your little one is the aquarium. Of course, who can deny the love of the underwater in our babies with a certain baby fish going ‘Do-Do-Do!’

Thus, an urban adventure might just be the moodlifter that you need for your next long weekend!

6. Theme Park Thrills and Adventure

Unleash your inner child by choosing a destination with a baby-friendly theme park.

Whether it’s meeting beloved characters, taking gentle rides, or indulging in cotton candy, these parks are designed to entertain both young and old. Also, these parks have entertainment options that are designed specifically for little ones to initiate their social skills. So, don’t shy away from getting your baby to become a celebrity amidst other tourists!

For the ‘out-and-about’ Millennial parents traveling with their babies habituated with baby-led weaning, these parks dedicate space for restaurants that offer free high-chairs and kids menu. In my last trip to Disneyland, I even saw exclusive breastfeeding rooms with changing stations for your ultimate comfort.

Another great benefit of having theme parks as your chosen destination for the next long weekend trip is how stroller-friendly they are. There are dedicated parking spots for strollers, easy rentable options, and most importanly, babies in strollers get priority! Check out my blog on Best Travel Strollers of 2024 if you need some tried and tested recommendations.

I definitely recommend theme parks for parents traveling with young babies, as most of them are FREE for children under 2! Just make sure your baby’s first roller coaster experience is a smooth one!

7. The Foodie Fiesta

If you like cultural outings, and food is a big part for you to experience a local culture, you should design your next long weekend getaway to be a food tour.

Introduce your mini-me to the world of culinary delights by choosing destinations known for great cuisines, interesting food trucks and street food, or unique themed restaurants.

From baby-friendly cultural festivals which have food and music innately attached to them, to family-friendly eateries with kid-friendly menu options, to wonderful gastronomic experiments with cloud kitchens or local home chefs… let your taste buds lead the way.

Just be prepared for the mess – because the yummy dumpling or spaghetti can become an interesting sensory play for little hands and mouth. Carrying a travel-friendly baby feeding set is your best friend for such escapades. Friends in USA and India, check out my top recommendations!

8. Wanderlust on Wheels

As always, I saved the OG weekend getaway, the best of them all, for the last. When you have just a couple of days to escape the mundane, road trips almost become a no-brainer. However, some things are not cliché, but classic, for a reason.

You can take your time, make your itinerary, move at your pace, and most importantly, bond with your baby over that coveted playlist! My go to recommendation is Amazon Prime, the largest database, the most user-friendly interface, and most importantly, has songs for you AND your baby!
