- 9:30 AM – Chicago Children’s Museum: Located right on Navy Pier, the Chicago Children’s Museum is a must-visit. Your kids will love exploring the interactive exhibits, like the “Dinosaur Expedition” where they can dig for fossils, or the “WaterWays” where they can play with water jets and boats. The museum is designed to be both fun and educational, making it a win-win for both kids and parents.
Mid-Morning Treat: Maggie Daley Park
- 11:30 AM – Head to Maggie Daley Park: A short walk from Navy Pier, Maggie Daley Park is a wonderland for kids. The park features a unique, whimsical playground with giant slides, climbing walls, and an Enchanted Forest. Let your kids burn off some energy while you relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Lunchtime Fun: Picnic with a View!
- 12:30 PM – Picnic at Millennium Park: Pack a picnic or grab some takeout from one of the nearby eateries and head to Millennium Park. Spread out your blanket on the Great Lawn and enjoy your lunch with a view of the stunning Cloud Gate (aka “The Bean”). After eating, take a stroll around the park and enjoy the art installations and gardens.
Splash Time: Fountain Magic
- 1:30 PM – Hop Around at Crown Fountain: After lunch, head over to Crown Fountain, a favorite among kids. This interactive public art piece features two 50-foot glass block towers that spout water, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. Kids will love splashing around in the shallow reflecting pool between the towers.
- 2:00 PM – Cool Down at Millennium Monument: The Millennium Monument at Wringley Square is a lovely easy-breezy green space with park benches, manicured lawns, and beautiful shade from large trees. Let the kids dip their toes in the cool water while you can catch a breath on the park benches.
Afternoon Delight: Art Institute of Chicago
- 2:30 PM – Explore Art Institute of Chicago: Take a short stroll to the Art Institute of Chicago, right on the Michigan Lane. The entry ticket is about $30, but it’s free for kids under 13 years. Together, indulge in the history and art of this great city and country. For Indians, a special attraction is the Fullerton Hall, where Swami Vivekananda gave the explosive and epic speech. Never felt more proud to be an Indian!
Amidst the Blues: Sunset Cruise
- 4:30 PM – Enjoy a sunset cruise: By evening, taking a relaxing cruise on River Chicago or Lake Michigan is perhaps the best way to wrap up a fun-filled day. There are themed cruises as well as normal tourist boats, and each offer a different experience indeed! Alternatively, you can simply head back to the Navy Pier and enjoy some of the free concerts while your kids keep spotting the different types of birds flying above you! We loved the various options of cruises or events offered by Navy Pier!
Dinner Delight: Everything from Chicago under One Roof!
- 4:30 PM – Indulge in a splendid dinner with the fam: Dinner in the Navy Pier is perhaps the most easiest and fun activities to do with the family. With a large assortment of cuisines, pop-up shops, juice bars, and ice-creameries, your tastebuds will be in for a party, with something for everyone in the family! Explore the many flavours offered at this beautiful location.
The ‘Cliche but Classic’ Tips for a Smooth Day Trip
